Lara Jean, who?! Lana Condor is ready to move past the mini skirts and cardigans of her To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before days, with a new magazine cover that reads more “fashion icon” and less “girl next door.”

Starring on SELF’s February 2021 issue, it would have been easy to lean into the pink-bows-and-hearts vibe that her on-screen persona is known for. But Lana is on to bigger and better things–yes, in her career, but I’m also talking about her shoulder pads.

In a look that will ever be remembered as one of her best, Lana exchanged Peter Pan collars for an architectural sweater moment that would make Lady Gaga stand and applaud. Paired with a statement belt and a pair of pop art pants, her look makes one thing very clear: I’m Lana, not Lara.

Though she’s ready to move forward, onto new roles and stories, Lana says that the departure from her famed character wasn’t an easy one. The actress admits she spent her last day filming TATBILB 3 in tears.

I was having the best day ever working with my friends,” she told SELF. “And then my heart was also breaking at the same time, because I knew I was going to have to say goodbye to this character that has done so much for me and has just changed my life, has given me these insane opportunities, has just made me feel like I’m more connected to my community.”

Lara Jean is gone, but there’s so much more to come from Lana Condor.
